Mitchell Marcus is the founder and General Counsel at General Counsel on Call.
Before creating General Counsel on Call, Mitchell was the General Counsel of a global e-commerce and securities and financial services company. Mitchell was responsible and accountable for all legal affairs including corporate and commercial matters, litigation, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, intellectual property, employment matters, insurance, risk management and also led in-house education and development programs. Mitchell also provided leadership and strategic counsel on all deal-making and M&A activities, and in the establishment of business operations and opportunities in China, Pakistan and the Middle East as part of the company’s international growth expansion into emerging markets.
Mitchell also held legal roles with legal and compliance accountability in the insurance industry. Prior to working in-house, Mitchell practiced law in Montreal where he gained extensive business law experience working on complex commercial transactions and corporate reorganizations across multiple industries. Mitchell has extensive mediation and dispute resolution experience, has been appointed a dispute arbitrator and has completed the Harvard Mediation Program.
In addition to his legal experience, Mitchell is an entrepreneur. Mitchell has developed and contributed to the development and growth of financially successful businesses. His approach to the practice of law and legal advice is with an entrepreneur’s mindset of focusing on commercial sensibility and practicality, and with a value proposition of ensuring that his advice and recommendations move the business forward and create shareholder value.
Mitchell is bilingual (English/French), and holds a Bachelor of Common Law, a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Arts (Industrial Relations) from McGill University.
